Fourteen Days Later...

Georgia has been good to me for the last fourteen days. It's hard to believe that I've already been here for two weeks. This week has been so full and busy that I haven't even had time to post any new blogs! Since Monday, the interns and I have been training the summer RAs. It is quite an exhausting task that requires complete attention and energy. Courtney and I are supervising 15 RAs. We have a great mix of eclectic individuals. I am very impressed with the students at SCAD. Not only are they talented in a wide range of areas, but also they are very proactive. Our first batch of high school students will get here on Sunday afternoon, so we have been preparing all week for their arrival. As part of that preparation, Courtney and I asked the summer RAs to come up with a theme for the summer. The summer sessions will be based on the theme: DH1 (like VH1)... We love the '90s. I am proud to say that I suggested switching the 'V' to a 'D' in the DH1 logo. It was so exciting when all the summer RAs liked my idea! And here is the finished product, as designed by one of the talented graphic design students:
Cool, right?! Have I ever told you how delighted I am to have been a child of the '90s? Where would I be without the boy band days? And how lonely the days of my youth would have been without the Tanners, Zach, Kelly, Slater, Screech, Mr. Belding, and Cory & Topanga? Ok, that's enough.

Yesterday, we celebrated Courtney's birthday at Tony Roma's. While we were waiting to be seated, I met a very nice older man named Mark. He was eating a steak by himself and he struck up a conversation with me. He told me that he was raised a Jew, his grandfather was a rabbi, but during his time living with a roommate in college, he kept hearing about Jesus and he made a decision to follow Christ. I was very intrigued by this man's story and his testimony. Even though our interaction was short, it was meaningful. I'm not sure why the Lord allowed our paths to cross in that restaurant, but I am thankful.

I spent most of my time today assigning nearly 140 names to different rooms throughout the living area. It was much more challenging than I anticipated - trying to match roommate preferences, majors, and age groups. The true test comes next week when all the roommates that I assigned actually live together... I am learning new things every day here at SCAD!
